Milwaukee Family Photography | Beach Fun!

Four cousins got together for a week of Fourth of July fun, which included a morning visit to the beach.  It was the first time playing in the lake for the youngest!  All the kids were totally immersed in collecting rocks and driftwood, splashing around in the water and enjoying the day together — And isn’t that the way summer should be?

Happy 4th everyone!

Milwaukee Photographer | Lemonade Stand

My little cutie has been begging to do a lemonade stand…and it was never a good time so we always had to say no or not right now.  I was starting to feel like I was stealing her entire summer away because of all the moving, running around and unpacking that has kept me very busy.  So when she asked yesterday, I said yes…and you should have seen her face! She was so excited and even commented on how we always say no, “but today you said yes!” (melt my heart). But this ambitious little one didn’t just want to set up a lemonade stand…she wanted to build one first. And the ambitious mommy that I am, said why not.

Milwaukee Photography | My Gal Pals, Jen and Laurie

I had walked in late…damn traffic from Milwaukee to Chicago.  No-dice on networking before the workshop.  Then I had to walk practically across the stage to enter the room.  Humiliating!  I ducked my head and scooted to the back row.  No more chairs…except for the folding chairs laying on the side of the room.  So I unfolded my own chair and quickly and quietly as I could and sat down…breath, ok I made it.  It was well worth all the hassle. It was Jasmine Star’s The Fix workshop in Chicago and I was in total awwe. Her Exposed magazine had become a bible of sorts. I stalked her blog and admired her work.  I absorbed everything she wrote, shot and said. I wanted to truly put into practice her business savvy, but I had questions about how to make some of them work.  So when it came time for questions, I bravely walked up to the mic and said what I had been rehearsing in my head for the 15 minutes prior.

Milwaukee Senior Photos | Karley

Before the college applications are mailed.
Before the cap and gown fitting.
Before your last high-school dance.
Before flipping your tassel.
Before getting that affirming piece of paper.
Before saying good-bye.

…before all that, there is the summer before senior year. Unlike any other summer this one is filled with excitement, fun and anticipation for an incredible final year of high school.  And it is also the time when seniors pull out all the stops in their photos.  Karley is one of those exceptional girls that is sure to have an amazing senior year and beyond.  Riding horses is her thing…so I was thrilled when she suggested doing her senior photos at the farm where she boards her four (very strong)-legged baby.  As storms gathered in the distance and rain fell here and there, we sought out well lit spaces to capture some amazing photos.  Striker was not as thrilled with the inclement conditions and didn’t want to cooperate for too long despite the many candy corn we use to persuade him.  Karley’s boyfriend, Austin also popped into a few shots but luckily we didn’t have to do too much bribing for him to cooperate.  And WOW, were those too just a steamy couple! I just love the shots of them together.

Tea Party with Grammy | Milwaukee Photographer

When Grammy came to visit we set out for a lovely little fairy-inspired tea party in the yard. It is within these childhood moments that we make the most beautiful memories. These photos display my preferred style of capturing children and families. It is called lifestyle because it is capturing moments as they are happening in life.  I was able to capture the most authentic smiles and glances.
