Breakwaters exist to reduce the intensity of waves as well as provide safe harborage. They also tend to be beautiful spots.

We have some breakwaters along Lake Michigan that feature incredible stones stacked in perfect configuration. Between the crashing of waves and the gorgeous surroundings, they are some of my favorite spots on Lake Michigan.

It seems that is exactly what Matthew realized when he decided to propose to Sarah at the end of a breakwater on Lake Michigan just beyond popular Lincoln Memorial Drive along Milwaukee’s lakefront.

“Alcohol. Because no great love story ever started with someone eating a salad.”

The word whimsical comes to mind when reminiscing on Sarah and Matt’s big day. From little wedding details like the above quote that greeted guests at the bar to the intricate floral arrangements at each table, you could tell that Sarah and Matt had an eye for details in making their special day a romantically whimsical one to remember. The reception was held at downtown Milwaukee’s Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and a vintage trolley was rented to escort the bridal party around town in between the ceremony and the reception.

If I hadn’t witnessed it myself, I might have thought the dense fog, immaculate garden, rustic architecture, and rose, lace, and charcoal gray accents suggested a wedding held in a romantic European town rather than a venue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alas, though, that is the beauty of this city – and one that others were quick to pick up on. I am so excited to share that Justin and Michelle’s Villa Terrace wedding was selected as a special feature in Wisconsin Bride as part of their Real Weddings section.

'Claire & Ben | Geneva National Resort Wedding

Claire & Ben | Geneva National Resort Wedding

This wedding had all the makings of a fairytale. It was held on an unseasonably warm November day, the leaves almost as bright as the bride’s smile. The church was the same church the bride’s parents had married at 32 years ago, and to top it all off, the Cubs had won the 2016 World Series just days earlier, making the groom – a giant Cubs fan – an even happier and lucky guy. The Cubs may have had to wait 108 years to snag their win but Ben only had to wait a short 13 years to finally call Claire his wife.

Roger & Samantha | Milwaukee Potowatomi Hotel Wedding

Monday Wedding Fix is here!  After a weekend of shooting weddings, I am excited to be sharing a completed wedding from earlier in the season.  This is the Milwaukee wedding of Samantha and Roger.  Their wedding was a beautiful tribute to winning big as it was held at Potowatomi Casino Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.  But this occasion was nothing like a gamble…it was a sure bet with a major payout.

“The most important people in the world to us are going to be there and I want our pics to show how much we laugh and love each other and all who are there.”  That is what Stephanie told me in one of our first emails about the vision she and Dan had for their big day.  And for this couple who met on eharmony.com, intimacy, laughter and togetherness were of utmost important for their day.

'Alex & Katie | Lake Windsor Country Club Wedding

Alex & Katie | Lake Windsor Country Club Wedding

On a gorgeous September day, just outside of Madison, Katie and Alex said their i dos.  It was a day full of sweet smiles and gentle laughter. Of meaningful embraces and sentimental gestures.  I loved capturing Katie’s dad and brother showing such pride and adoration for Katie. And the poise and patience of Alex waiting for his bride at the alter, who ran just a little behind schedule.  In fact, I remember being touched by the relief in Alex’s posture and face when I positioned myself at the end of the isle getting ready for the ceremony to begin…a sign that Katie had made it and all was well. Capturing and sometimes even being a small part of those little moments are what I love more than anything about weddings.  Those moments make each wedding different and each photograph different.  I get to spend the day with couples on one of the most important days of their lives and I don’t ever forget it.  It is an honor to be there with them.  I love using my talents to freeze in time their happiest moments.  Pretty great gig, right?

The weather was a bit of a wild card on the day of Curt and Ellen’s wedding.  That particular Saturday had around a 50/50 chance of rain. It was a little worrisome considering they had planned a gorgeous gathering under a tent in the backyard of Ellen’s parent’s lake house in Waterford, WI.  They had envisioned their day surrounded by friends and family in the lawn as they recited their promises of forever love to one another.  And then step into an elegant reception setting along the banks of Tichigan Lake.  A few rain drops fell, but
